Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis units operate on the principle of using osmotic pressure and membranes to produce a much higher quality, lower TDS (total dissolved solids) water than what is fed to the system. RO units are found in many different applications: pre-treatment for boiler feedwater, production use water, cooling tower make-up, and more increasingly, re-use water or zero-discharge applications.

AquaTrol offers a full line of dedicated products to meet the needs of these specialized systems, ensuring optimum performance level and maximum membrane life.

AquaTrol’s Reverse Osmosis Programs Provide:

DECHLORINATION

PREVENT RO MEMBRANE DEGRADATION WITH DECHLORINATION CHEMICALS – Chlorine, which can rapidly break down most RO membranes, is typically present in most feed water and must be removed to optimize membrane life.

ANTISCALANTS

EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR RO SYSTEM AND PREVENT MEMBRANE FOULING WITH ANTISCALANTS – High levels of silica or hardness over 50 ppm result in the formation and accumulation of deposits on system surfaces. Without antiscalants, this fouling creates the need for frequent cleanings, reducing the overall life of the membrane.

BIOCIDES

MAINTAIN SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AT AN OPTIMAL LEVEL WITH BIOCIDES – Microbiological growth through RO membranes is caused by a variety of factors and must be controlled so as not to impede RO system performance.

RO CLEANERS

MAXIMIZE MEMBRANE LIFE WITH TAILORED CLEANING PROGRAMS – Over time, RO membranes develop fouling due to the presence of contaminants in the RO make-up water. Development will occur on some level regardless of the chemistries fed to lessen the effects. When the fouling becomes severe enough product water quality (TDS) or flows are negatively impacted, it becomes necessary to either clean or replace the membranes. Membranes are cleaned on site by a clean-in-place (CIP) system or packaged and sent to be cleaned off site while a spare set of membranes is put in place. AquaTrol offers all cleaning components including: CIP system cleaners, off-site membrane cleaning, as well as replacement membranes. Upon request, we can perform a membrane foulant analysis to ascertain the root cause of the issue and determine the proper cleaning products to address your system’s specific needs. We have a full line of both powdered and liquid products designed to remove various foulants, such as silica, hardness, metals, biofoulants, sulfates, phosphates, and colloidal compounds.
